Biopsy
After routine examination, 4 - 8 ml bone marrow is harvested from the Iliac crest (back). Patient returns back to normal routine within 2 hours. Collected sample is transferred in specially designed kit and transported to lab for culture.
Culture
The sample is first screened for Quality Check purposes and then cultured for 4 weeks. During these 4 weeks, the cells are expanded several folds. They are then packaged in temperature-controlled conditions and transported to the hospital.
Implant
During implantation, the doctor will create a small incision to the hip and necrotic bone (dead) is gently removed. Osteoblast cells are slowly implanted into the defect area. Patient is discharged after 2-3 days’ hospital stay. Rehabilitation schedule is provided by the doctor for faster and better recovery.
Rehab
Stationary biking may be started 6 weeks after surgery with resistance on the pedals. Walking is also an excellent exercise to help build strength, but only after crutches have been discontinued. Swimming or aquatic exercises can be started 6 weeks following surgery. The patient is advised to stop any form of exercise that causes new or increased pain.
Life After OSSRON TM
Most patients can return to sedentary work with the use of crutches within 6 weeks. If the job requires walking without crutches, the patient may return 3 months following surgery. For Bilateral (both hips), the rehabilitation would change, so the doctor should be consulted for that.
